Digital Mental Health Programmes for Secondary Care

Connecting patients and practitioners across all levels of acuity

  • 93% user satisfaction rate

  • 12 months of maintained improvement

  • Proven to treat 4X people at ¼ the cost of face to face therapy

With referrals for individuals with severe mental illness (SMI) still growing, secondary care mental health services throughout the NHS are under significant pressure.

The good news is that with the move towards integrated primary and community mental health services, support that has been successful in primary care settings can help expand capacity in secondary care and provide patients with a joined-up approach to care.

A new, personalised care model

Backed by 20 years of research, SilverCloud® by Amwell® is an evidence based digital mental health platform with a variety of programmes across symptoms. Based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), the platform is designed to support patients at every level of stepped care.

Structured to align and integrate to the NHS integrated primary community mental health care model, SilverCloud programmes focus on the needs of individual patients rather than building care in siloed services, preventing patients from falling through the cracks of disjointed care.  Learn more about SilverCloud supports the IPCMH model.

Services who partner with SilverCloud® by Amwell® can deliver flexible and evidence-based personalized care, ensuring patients seamlessly move between services without getting lost in the system.

Benefits to patients

Support while waiting

Providing patients with access to a digital programme while they are waiting for their active treatment to begin enables them to use that time productively. Programmes can help individuals to familiarise themselves with the principles of the therapeutic process that they are about to begin and to start thinking about their goals.

A tool for homework

As SilverCloud® programmes are conveniently accessible on the patient's phone, they provide a convenient way for homework to be set and completed. Journal entries can be written in the moment and tools accessed at any time. Plus, clinicians can see the tools and modules a patient has engaged with, increasing transparency. If there has been no activity, the patient can be sent a reminder via the SilverCloud® secure messaging function.

Synchronous support

Each SilverCloud® programme incorporates multiple evidence-based tools which can be utilised within face-to-face therapy sessions either in person, or remotely. SilverCloud®'s Tools for Therapy functionality overcomes many of the challenges of remote collaboration including sharing documents in advance via email and getting completed work back from the patient. In-session work can take place on the platform and is accessible to both patient and clinician after the session.

Continuity post-treatment

Patients have long-term access to their SilverCloud® programme so they can continue to use the tools and access their work after their active period of treatment has ended. Additional programmes and modules can be assigned to the patient if it's felt they need further support as they progress through their recovery.

Seamless integrations

SilverCloud by Amwell and Access Rio allow integrated electronic patient records (EPRs) to provide NHS services a seamless experience for patients and clinicians to further maximize patient outcomes.

The SilverCloud platform can also seamlessly integrate into NHS case management systems, such as PCMIS and IAUPTus. Its Application Programming Interface (API) enables patient data to move seamlessly throughout the stepped care model.

Transforming Access to Therapy
Through Digital Programmes

Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT) partnered with SilverCloud® by Amwell® to increase access to evidence-based digital mental health support for patients. As an early adopter of digital mental health, LPFT has gained valuable insights into the patients and clinician benefits of integrating research and digital health into care pathways in Talking Therapies (TT) and secondary care services.
