With the support of Enterprise Ireland we are currently developing a system which will provide integrated solutions for a variety of mental health interventions. The system will allow traditional therapeutic materials to be quickly converted into electronic form and then delivered in an integrated client-centred manner on multiple platforms (e.g. desktop, mobile, online). It will also allow new types of interactive therapeutic materials to be created. 'Mood monitoring' is an important component of many intervention approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This involves people recording their mood at regular intervals, to help them to recognize the factors which may be impacting on their mood and how they have managed at times when they have felt depressed.
The telling and re-telling of personal stories is a fundamental aspect of many mental health interventions. In this project a system has been developed which allows people to us the media capabilities of mobile phones to gather a personal story.
The study compared the efficacy of a self-administered online CBT treatment (cCBT; n = 51) to a therapist-assisted email CBT treatment (eCBT; n = 50).
In 2006 as part of research that Derek Richards was carrying out he developed an online mental health portal. The work took place in conjunction with the Centre for Research in IT in Education (CRITE).
